Discharge

Definition

An act that removes a lender’s hypothec from the land register once the loan is repaid. A notary prepares it, and legal and administrative fees apply. Without a discharge, the hypothec stays registered on the title even if the debt is paid, which can block a sale or a refinancing. Check that it was published after a payoff or a transfer, and keep a copy.

For your plans

Confirm whether a full discharge or another registration is required and who pays the cost. Repaying the balance does not always remove the charge automatically.
